A remix event for Sheith writers and artists.

ABOUT

WHAT'S A REMIX?Like remixing a song, a fan remix takes an existing fanwork and re-imagines it with your own spin. It’s like fanwork ...of a fanwork! More than simply "inspired by," remixes have an explicit connection to the original work, building upon its foundation and premise. Logistically, it's kinda like an exchange — but the "prompt" is your own fanworks base!You won't know who the Remixer of your work is or which work is being Remixed until it's posted and revealed. Likewise, your Remixee won't know you are remixing their work. The element of surprise is part of the fun!Remix examples

PARTICIPATIONWhen you sign up, we'll ask for info about your art or fics. You may note if any of your works are off-limits, any subject matter your Remixer should avoid, and any individuals you do not want to be matched with.There is no anonymous participation option for the Remix.After sign-ups close, participants will be randomly and secretly assigned to another creator. Writers will be matched to other writers, and artists will be matched to other artists.There will be three check-ins, and complete submissions will be due at the beginning of the posting period (January 9) to allow time for pinch hitters, if necessary. You may continue to polish your work until your assigned posting day. If your Remix is not complete when submissions are due, we will look for a pinch hitter. We want to make sure every participant receives a Remix within the posting period — so let us know sooner rather than later if you won't be able to complete the event!When you receive your Remix, please remember that it's common courtesy to thank the person who created it for you. If you're receiving a fic Remix, you can leave a comment on Ao3 while authors are anon!Neglecting to check in or communicate with the mods, harassing the mods, or harassing other participants will result in a drop from the Remix and may result in a ban from future events. Remember that the person creating your Remix may follow you — please be considerate!REQUIREMENTSThe Remix is open to all skill levels, as long as you have some Sheith art or fic to be remixed! If you haven't posted Sheith art or fic or you just want to create a Remix without receiving one, consider signing up as a pinch hitter.Writers
Writers may choose to do a Full Remix or a Mini Remix. If you do a Full Remix, you will receive a Full Remix, and vice versa.To participate in the Full Remix, writers must provide at least 2 Sheith fics of at least 1000 words for your Remixer to choose from and create a fic of at least 1000 words based on your assigned Remixee's work base. Drabbles and tweet threads can be included in your works base too once you meet the minimum requirements!To participate in the Mini Remix, writers must provide at least 2 Sheith fics of at least 200 words for your Remixer to choose from and create a fic of 200-1000 words based on your assigned Remixee's work base. You may base your Remix on a fic of any length, but please do not exceed the maximum word count! For example, you could use a 20,000 word fic to write a 500 word Mini Remix.Artists
To participate, artists must provide at least 2 finished* Sheith art pieces to choose from and create one finished piece. Sketches can be included in your works base too once you meet the minimum requirements!* Finished according to your style — more than a sketch. Color is not required; black and white is okay! Use your best judgement, and feel free to ask if you are unsure.POSTINGAll participants will be assigned a date to post their Remix based on their stated availability. Participants may post at any time on their posting day according to their time zone. Mods will boost the post during regular hours in their time zone.Fic
Fic Remixes will be posted to an anonymous Ao3 collection. The intention behind anonymous fic posting is for recipients and readers to focus on the work during the posting period. At the end of the event, the Ao3 collection will be de-anon’d. At that point, authors' Ao3 subscribers will get a notification email that the author has posted a new work, and authors will be able to promote the work as they like on their own.Art
Art Remixes may be posted anonymously to the Ao3 collection or not-anonymously on the artist's social media. If posting anonymously on Ao3, artists may add a watermark saying "Sheith Remix 2022 Artist" as big and obnoxious as desired rather than their own watermark, as that would defeat the anonymity. Art will not be required to be posted anonymously due to art theft and the lack of a mechanism to de-anon directly on social media after the event.
